About The Event
Ever wanted to pick up a sherd of Iron Age pottery? Can you tell animal bone from human bone? Is it a Roman imbrex or tegula or a Medieval roof tile? Handle and sort a range of artifacts from the Archaeological Record and complete some tasks to see if you have what it takes to be an Archaeologist.
Come and handle a range of artifacts from different time periods, but can you order them chronologically? Learn how an iron age pot differs from a post medieval pot by looking at fragments (sherds) of the vessel. Estimate it's original size and record it as a pot specialist would. Do the objects tell you anything about diet or maybe wealth? Get creative with technical drawing or write a story of the journey or mystery of an object. Or simply wonder at the ancient objects in your hand.
